# Connection guide

## Endpoint

The relay opens a persistent TCP connection to the customer endpoint supplied during onboarding.

```
<consumer-private-ip>:<port>
```

The endpoint must accept more than one connection over its lifetime because the relay reconnects after network failures or listener restarts.

## Recommended socket behavior

* Enable `TCP_NODELAY`.
* Accept a connection and read frames in a loop.
* Do not assume one `read` equals one frame.
* Use bounded buffering and reject payloads larger than 4 MiB.
* Log protocol errors before closing the socket.
* Deduplicate items by `(sequence, ordinal)`.

## Minimal read loop

```
while connected:
    header = read_exact(20)
    length_and_flags = u32_le(header[0:4])
    require length_and_flags & 0x10000000 != 0
    payload_len = length_and_flags & 0x0fffffff
    require payload_len <= 4 MiB
    payload = read_exact(payload_len)
    decode_direct(payload)
```

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.txflash.io/connection-guide.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
